„The work with a stranger using foreign signs and images lets me recognize consistently how limited one´s own horizon is. Together it is possible to broaden it, and at best fireworks of colorful new ideas will appear.  Art goes at best beyond the scope of its own horizon.“ (foreign affairs-arts alliances, ICW)

About the art project foreign affairs-arts alliances:

To be a stranger and to become acquainted with each other – this is the area of tension which moves the project foreign affairs-arts alliances – a concept by Isabel Czerwenka-Wenkstetten. It is about an experimental art project where two or more artists with completely different backgrounds meet each other to work together. Isabel Czerwenka-Wenkstetten finds via the internet artists, who are engaged in the experience of being a stranger. The feeling of strangeness is becoming more important insofar as the artists have never met in person before. The main question for Isabel Czerwenka-Wenkstetten during that project is always: „How close and how far can art brings us?“

The reconciliation of the artists can be seen as ways of reconciliation in general. The collaboration involves a mutual understanding through the artistic process. Steps are taken to confront each other’s prejudices and stereotypes. This reciprocal approach becomes concrete for the artists and the community during the public exhibitions in both countries.
